Installer 4 beta 4 Issues and Workarounds

Yes it is true, installer 4 beta is included as part of pwnage 2.0.2. However, installer may not be working very well yet. Most these issues should be fixed soon, but here are current issues you (as users) will find with working with this revision of installer. At this point (for stability), I recommend using Cydia to manage your package installs.

  • The custom info pages as intended for you to see the package by the packager does not show up on the first viewing of any package. You must click the package twice to see it. This means no “more info” links otherwise.
  • Updated packages only show “uninstall” when viewed in “recent packages” or “all packages”, but it shows the “update” button when viewed in the “update” category. So for your updates, you must use the “update” category, not the “recent” category like old installer.
  • Packages are seen multiple times in some cases. This can be confusing. They are most likely the same package, however.
  • If internal icon is not present, package task loads forever trying to fetch the icon. No timeout. You may see a spinner on a package forever due to this.
  • If a package fails to install for any reason, it sits spinning forever until installer is closed. So if you get a failed package install, close installer and reopen it.
  • Package page views show the data from the previous page view initially. So if you are looking at package “bossprefs” and then go to “bosstool” you will see the description for BossPrefs still until BossTool page loads. This can be confusing especially on a slow internet connection. So you should wait for the page to load patiently.
  • Installed packages do not show much indication when they are done other than the red tasks thing goes away.So you hit a package to install it, and nothing appears to h appen. The package is also not moved into the installed list until you exit the category and enter it again. You can gage when the process is done based on the red “tasks” number going away.
  • Community sources package is incorrect. It is missing most the main repositories and also missing all the icons in our repository causing a whole bunch of “file not found” errors to pop up when browsing packages (making installer unusable). This will be resolved soon. If not, we will put out a package called “bigboss installer icons” that will resolve it.
  • Some packages will never appear in installer such as Winterboard, BSD. This may cause dependency issues when apps require this. These things must be installed from Cydia. BSD is a *must*. Many apps use it.
  • Sometimes refreshing sources does not pick up new packages. You must refresh each source individually by clicking on it and its refresh icon.
